Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, celebrated National Sports Day on 29th August 2025 to mark the birth anniversary of the legendary hockey player, Major Dhyan Chand. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Physical Education & Sports in collaboration with the Departments of Zoology, Botany, History, NSS unit and NCC.The Chief Guest of the occasion was Shri Vaneet Dhir, Mayor of Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, who was warmly welcomed by Principal Dr. Suman Chopra, Dr. Rachhpal Singh (Dean Sports), Prof. Simranjit Singh (Head, Department of Physical Education & Sports) and members of the Sports Committee.Dr. Suman Chopra, in her opening remarks, highlighted the remarkable contribution of Lyallpur Khalsa College in the field of sports and reiterated the institution’s commitment to providing world-class facilities to budding sportspersons. She encouraged students to draw inspiration from the life and achievements of Major Dhyan Chand. After paying tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, the race was flagged off by the Mayor Shri Vaneet Dhir.Addressing the gathering, Shri Vaneet Dhir motivated the students to set clear goals and pursue them with dedication to excel at national and international levels. He urged them to participate in sports with honesty, commitment, and true sportsmanship while staying away from menace like drugs. He appreciated the legacy of Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar in the field of sports.As part of the celebrations, a cross-country race competition was organised. Prizes were awarded to the top 10 male and top 5 female athletes.In the concluding session, Dr. Rachhpal Singh Sandhu (Dean Sports) extended a vote of thanks. The stage was conducted by NSS chief Program Officer Prof. Satpal Singh.The event was also graced by coaches S. Sarabjit Singh (Athletics), Dr. Sarabjit Singh (Basketball), S. Davinderpal Singh (Hockey), along with faculty members Dr. Dinkar Sharma, Dr. Ajitpal Singh, Dr. Karanbir Singh, Dr. Vikas Kumar, Dr. Harjinder Singh Sekhon, Dr. Palwinder Singh, Prof. Surbjit Singh, Prof. Ajay Kumar, Prof. Manvir Pal, S. Jagdish Singh, and S. Paramjit Singh.
