Condolence meeting held at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar

Punjabi literary world suffered an irreparable loss lately with the passing away of Dr. Ranjit Singh Bajwa, former Prof. and Head of Department of Punjabi, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu offered floral tributes to the departed souls and said that apart from being a world-class scholar, he was a very friendly and beloved teacher of the students. Dr. Sandhu added that during his teaching, he made the students complete high-level research projects like M. Phil and Ph. D in the field of folklore and culture and he also provided his teaching services at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar. Scholarship for Lyallpur Khalsa College Students

Scholarships worth rupees 1,00,000/- were awarded to the needy and deserving students of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar by S. Jaswant Singh Rai Memorial Public Charitable Trust. Speaking on the occasion, the College President Governing Council, Sardarni Balbir Kaur lauded the Trust for extending this financial support to students. Principal Dr. Rashpal Singh Sandhu said that the Trust had been providing financial help to the students of the college for a number of years. He also reiterated the commitment of the college to affordable and quality education, adding that all possible efforts would be made to support meritorious and deserving students. This scholarship was regularly given by Dr. K.S. Rai son of S. Jaswant Singh Rai but this year his son S. Amarjit Singh Rai specially arrived at the college from America after the demise of S. Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar, the leading educational institution of North India, has been making proud achievements in sports, educational and cultural fields. Under this series, Neha Sahota, a student of MA Music Vocal of the college's postgraduate department of music, has brought glory to the college by securing first place in the folk song competition organized by the Rotary Club Jalandhar in which 11 educational institutions participated. The Career Counseling and Placement Cell in association with the PG Department of English and the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar organized an extension lecture on the topic “Career Opportunities for Students in the Field of Literature and Language.” The resource person for the lecture was Dr. Narinder K. Sharma from the Department of English, School of Languages, Literature and Culture at the Central University of Punjab. Addressing the students, Dr. Sharma elaborated on the diverse career avenues available to students of literature and language, including teaching, research, translation, content writing, media, publishing, civil services and other emerging interdisciplinary fields. The PG Department of History of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, organised a series of literary competitions to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of the great freedom fighter S. Bhagat Singh on his martyrdom day. The programme included essay, poetry and elocution competitions, in which students from various academic disciplines participated enthusiastically.  Presiding over the programme, Principal Dr. Rachpal Singh Sandhu paid heartfelt tributes to the martyr. The Post-Graduate Punjabi Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar, celebrated its Platinum Jubilee on March 19–20, 2026, marking 75 years of its establishment. The first day was dedicated to various activities related to Punjabi language, literature, and culture, while the second day featured cultural programs, interactive sessions, and theatrical performances. At the outset of the second day's program, Sardarni Balbir Kaur, President of the College Governing Council, extended a warm welcome to all attendees. She described the Post-Graduate Punjabi Department as the pride of the college, calling it a cradle that has produced eminent personalities in various fields related to the Punjabi world. Platinum Jubilee celebration is organised on 19-20 March 2026 at the completion of 75 years of the Postgraduate Punjabi Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar. Various activities related to Punjabi language, literature and culture are being organized including a heritage village and a book exhibition in which about 12 publishers participated. M.A. Punjabi was initiated in 1950. This department has produced renowned personalities in the field of Punjabi language, literature and culture, due to which it has a unique history. On the first day of the program, inter-college quiz competition, poster making, poetry competition were conducted, and a poet's court was also organized with the support of the Central Punjabi Writers' Association in which renowned poets participated.
