Planning forum of P.G. Department of Economics Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar recently hosted and an insightful guest lecture titled ‘Changing Scenario of Agriculture in Punjab. Dr M.S. Toor, a renowned economics from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana was the chief guest and speaker of this wonderful event which attracted a diverse audience of students and faculty members. Dr. Toor is a rare combination of success and humility having extraordinary achievements. He apprised the audience about the important of agriculture with diversified example. Starting from history of agriculture development to Swaminathan report, he touched every aspect of Punjab agriculture. According to Dr. Toor, cost of input has increased more proportionately than it's out prices. This is the main cause behind the farmers reluctance to adopt diversification of crops. It was an interactive session in which students from audience also share their experience and clear their doubts from Dr. Toor. Apart from this information lecture, a major tree plantation drive to promote environmental sustainability engaging more than 60 enthusiastic students was also successful conducted by department of Economics. Chief guest Dr. Toor awarded certificate and medals to participants and organising committee lead by Jaskaran Singh a student of M.A. Economics. He also gave prizes to the winner of inter departmental poster making competitions and collage making competition organised by economics department on 21st December 2004 in which more than 50 students from a various departments participated and showcased their talent. Audience was also mesmerized by the dance performed by the students of Economics on the theme of Changed Punjabi Culture. Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Navdeep Kaur, Head Department of Economics. She highly appreciated the chief guest for sparing his valuable time and sharing his views with audience. Principle Dr. Jaspal Singh of the College lauded and encouraged. Economic department for making endeavours to aware student about such crucial issues. Vice Principal Prof. Jasreen Kaur, Dr. S.S. Bains, Prof. Sarbjit Kaur, Prof. Ritika Sharma, Heads of other departments and all the faculty members of were also present on this occasion.

ਲਾਇਲਪੁਰ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ ਕਾਲਜ ਜਲੰਧਰ ਦੇ ਪੋਸਟ ਗਰੈਜੂਏਸ਼ਨ ਇਕਨਾਮਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਪਲੈਨਿੰਗ ਫੋਰਮ ਨੇ 'ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਦੇ ਬਦਲ ਰਹੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਗੈਸਟ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਡਾ. ਐਮ.ਐਸ. ਤੂਰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਦੇ ਉੱਘੇ ਅਰਥਸ਼ਾਸਤਰੀ ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਤੌਰ ਮੁੱਖ ਬੁਲਾਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋਏ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੁਆਗਤ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੁਲਦਸਤਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਡਾ. ਤੂਰ ਨੇ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਉਦਾਹਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀਨ ਨੂੰ ਖੇਤੀ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਇਆ। ਖੇਤੀ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਵਾਮੀਨਾਥਨ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਤੱਕ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਦੇ ਹਰ ਪਹਿਲੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੋਹਿਆ। ਡਾ. ਤੂਰ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਖੇਤੀ ਦੀ ਲਾਗਤ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਉਤਪਾਦਨ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਅਨੁਪਾਤ ਨਾਲ ਵਧੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਫਸਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਖਰੇਵੇਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਝਿਜਕ ਦਾ ਇਹ ਮੁੱਖ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਤਜ਼ਰਬੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸ਼ੰਕਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਨਿਵਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਲੈਕਚਰ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਇਕਨਾਮਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੁਆਰਾ 60 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਸਾਹਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਰੁੱਖ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਵੀ ਚਲਾਈ ਗਈ। ਇਕਨਾਮਿਕ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਬਦਲੇ ਹੋਏ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਉਪਰ ਡਾਂਸ ਦੀ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਡਾ. ਤੂਰ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲੈਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕੀ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਟੀਫਿਕੇਟ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਡਲ ਤਕਸੀਮ ਕੀਤੇ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਕਨਾਮਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਦਿਨੀਂ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਗਏ ਅੰਤਰ-ਵਿਭਾਗੀ ਪੋਸਟਰ ਅਤੇ ਕੌਲਾਜ ਮੇਕਿੰਗ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਦੇ ਜੇਤੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਨਾਮ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ 50 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਜਸਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਅਹਿਮ ਮੁੱਦਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਉਪਰਾਲੇ ਲਈ ਇਕਨਾਮਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਨਵਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ ਮੁਖੀ ਇਕਨਾਮਿਕਸ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਸਮਾਂ ਕੱਢਣ ਅਤੇ ਸਰੋਤਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਲਾਘਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਵਾਈਸ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਜਸਰੀਨ ਕੌਰ, ਡਾ. ਐਸ.ਐਸ. ਬੈਂਸ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਸਰਬਜੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਸਮੇਤ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਭਾਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਵੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ।
