The Intellectual Property Rights Cell of Lyallpur Khalsa College organized a webinar on Intellectual Property Rights, Patents, and Designs in collaboration with the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Intellectual Property Management, Nagpur (Government of India). The primary objective of this webinar was to raise awareness among faculty members regarding intellectual property rights (IPR). The keynote speaker for the event was Mrs. Pooja Maulikar from RGNIPM, and she was formally welcomed by the college Registrar, Prof. Navdeep Kaur. Prof. Navdeep Kaur commended the organizers for their efforts in educating people about their rights and emphasized the growing importance of safeguarding knowledge from unauthorized use in the present context. Principal Prof. Jasreen Kaur said in her message for the successful organization of this seminar that knowledge, information and research are closely related. They are the intellectual property of an inventor. Hence its preservation and patenting becomes very imperative. Dr. Manpreet Singh Lehal, the Coordinator of the webinar and the In-Charge of the IPR Cell, introduced the concept of Intellectual Property and highlighted its advantages for individuals. Mrs. Pooja Maulikar, the keynote speaker, provided a comprehensive definition of Intellectual Property Rights, describing them as encompassing ideas, inventions, and creative expressions that are granted the status of property due to public recognition. IPR grants exclusive rights to the creators or inventors of such property, allowing them to derive commercial benefits from their creative work and reputation. She explained how IPR serves as a potent tool for safeguarding the investments, time, money, and effort invested by creators by providing them with exclusive rights for a specific period to utilize their creations. In this manner, IPR contributes to a country's economic development by fostering healthy competition, promoting industrial growth, and encouraging economic prosperity. Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Anand, Head Department of Computer Sciences and IT, extended his gratitude to Mrs. Pooja Maulikar for sharing valuable insights with the participants. The webinar was attended by faculty members and students of the college, and participants received certificates for their participation.
